Like many mums when my boys were a bit smaller hours were sent watching Chris and Poi on Cbeebies. Hmmm I thought, I recognise him .... surly after all this years it is not the Chris I remember from my childhood? So ... like most people..... I turned to Wikipedia.
It was indeed THAT Chris Jarvis..... the one who in the early 1990s appeared on Children's BBC, presenting in The Broom Cupboard alongside Zoƫ Ball and Josie d'Arby. THE Chris Jarvis who presented Playdays. In 1997, THE same Chris Jarvis who hosted Fully Booked with Tim Vincent and Gail Porter.
In 1997 Chris was part of The Friday Zone, which was broadcast on Friday afternoons on BBC One. Alongside Debra Stephenson (Bad Girls/ Coronation Street), Peter Simon (Run the Risk/ Going Live), Dominic Wood (one half of Dick and Dom), Steve Rock and Emma Lee. As a spin-off to tgis show they released a single called "Glasses" to raise money for Comic Relief. Sadly, perhaps due to the fact it was up against the official song by the Spice Girls "Mama" not many people, other then me, bought it (it was cd's and tapes back then)
Did you buy or not??

Tuneful Tuesday - Birdhouse In Your Soul (They Might Be Giants)
Back in the days of casesste tapes and recording the Pepsi Network Chart Show this found its way onto a mix tape. I'd forgotton all about it, reheard it today and the memories came flooding back.
It was released in 1989 but most recently returned to the UK Singles Chart in 2010, after its use in a television advert for Clarks Shoes.

Meredith Brooks - Bitch (as you can guess contains bad words)
In the days of PC gone mad and people overreacting to things I was shocked to hear Asda playing one of my favourite songs this week... in fact I moseyed around the clothing/ entertainment department far longer then I anticipated just to hear all of it.
I kind of see this song as a theme tune to my life ... I am all these things and you know what ... if you don't like it I don't care, I DO have a softer side but only if you deserve to see it :)
Released in May 1997 I was still at school (albeit high school) and to say the word 'bitch' even in context/ a song was really frowned about in my house. However it is one of my go-to feel good songs for an anger release.

Tuneful Tuesday - Roxette - must have been love
Originally released in 1987 as a Christmas song, "Christmas for the Broken Hearted", the song's original title, it went on to become a Top 10 hit in Sweden but EMI Germany decided not to the release the track. Later "It must have been love" featured on the 1990 soundtrack to the popular film Pretty Woman and had a much better run.

Tuneful Tuesday - Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice
If you haven't heard of the Ice Bucket challenge sweeping the nation this week what have you been doing? If you haven't yet participated in it....well it's only a matter of time.
I've heard a few good excuses to get out of it (I am against animal testing and they test on animals), personally these viral crazes normally get ignored by me as they are pointless (the drinking one anyone?) but this one I didn't mind..... that was until i came down with this stupid cold/ cough/ achy bug and figured it probably isn't a good idea for me to stand in the cold and chuck water over myself right now.... I am more than happy to do it when I feel a bit better :)
My boys took up the challenge tho (but obviously with warmer water) and so has my hubby. Hats off to Matt Damon for using toilet water to raise awareness of another fantastic cause - the lack of safe water, see water.org for more information and as for the firefighters..........
Please feel free to share your links to your ALS Ice Bucket challenges (or whichever cause you chose to support with it) below (please note all links WILL be verified for inappropriate content).
Anyway, what could be more fitting a Tuneful Tuesday for this week then the soundtrack to many peoples videos ...... the 1989 hit, Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice.

Breathe - Faith Hill
This is one song that holds memories for me, we got married on 28th July 2007 (yup 7 years yesterday) and whilst Bryan Adams, Heaven, was our first dance this is the one I walked down the aisle too. You see we got married in a hotel and not a church so whilst I could have had the wedding march they also suggested we could have anything we wanted................

Tuneful Tuesday - "Torn", by Natalie Imbruglia
It later became a huge feature of my 'break-up' playlist.
It's also extremely catch and ear-wormy due to its excessive repetition.

Tueful Tuesday - MMMBop by Hanson
I've just discovered Spotify and am a little bit addicted to reviving all my songs of yesteryear without having to turn out my CD collection. One of my favourite playlists is called "Songs to Sing in the shower" and among some of my tween favourites featured was Hanson's MMMBop .... it was one of the first singles I bought in 1997 (when i was a little tween of 15, wow that was a lonnggggggg time ago).
It's one of those proper earworm songs so if you don't want to be singing it for the rest of the day look away now!!

Gina G - Ooh Aah... Just a Little Bit
I'm not a Euro-nut. In fact I will do anything to avoid watching it. But I couldn't let the week pass without sharing my favourite Eurovision song of all time (my mum used to have it on when I was little).
In 1996 Gina G took to the stage with Ooh Aah... Just a Little Bit, although she only made it to the number 8 spot in the show the song went onto be Number 1 in the UK and other countries. It was also one of the first singles I bought.
Do you have a favourite Eurovision song?

Tuneful Tuesday - Do You Want to Build a Snowman? from Frozen
Here's a song that really captured me and the boys this week .... I fear we will be singing it for many more weeks to come.
If you've not seen the film this song is about how lonely Anna is and how she wants to spend time and play with her sister, Elsa. It shows her at different ages throughout the song. Just before the last verse of the song, their parents die, so the last verse is sadder than the rest.
Here's the lyrics, and a you tube video so you can enjoy the magic yourself.

Tuneful Tuesday - Ace of Base - The Sign
Here's a song that really reminds me of my childhood. Released in 1993 I remember listening to it at my Auntie's Farm House. I was only 11 but I can remember the exact layout of that house. I can remember the wooden picnic bench style table in the kitchen and I can remember eating chocolate Wheetos ... wow what a treat they were as I was never allowed them at home.
She used to have a fish and chip van ... not something you see any more.
Ohhh i miss that Welsh farmhouse!
Here's the lyrics, and a you tube video incase you need to educate anyone ...........

Tuneful Tuesday - Avril Lavigne "Sk8er Boi"
This song always takes me back to Saturdays working in Boots and my a friend who kept me sane for 3 years (sadly we lost touch when I left Uni). We used to have a radio in the stockroom and this song would always get us both running to 'find an item' (aka dance around singing loudly) ........ you can only imagine what we were like when it played on a night out.

Tuneful Tuesday - Alanis Morissette "Ironic"
Tuneful Tuesday - Alanis Morissette "Ironic"
I loved Alanis' songs, the majority that were out in my mid tean years (late 90's) were such feel good happy songs that you couldn't help but join in with and sing along.
We were watching "The Internship" the other day that starts with "Ironic", I cannot hear this song without singing it.
For those of you who have never heard here it is, the lyrics and a randomly selected youtube video for Alanis Morisette's "Ironic".
If you have a song that holds memories or that you simply want to share with other people let me know, I may just feature it.
