Recipe: Um Bongo Jelly

Um Bongo, Um Bongo, They drink it in the Congo......
.....but in Sheffield we like to eat it as well.

Um Bongo first came to be in 1983, however as I was only 1 I'm guessing I didn't get to try it until a few years later.  It was certainly a staple drink in our house, the yummy combination of tropical flavours; apple, lemon, orange, pineapple, passion fruit and mandarin was far tastier then boring orange juice yet still super healthy.  And lets not forget that packaging and ever so catchy song that went along with it..... admit it, as soon as the product was re-launched in 2011 we were singing along to the words like it was only yesterday we last heard them.

Well 30 years later and the product is every bit as tasty as I remembered it, the packaging every bit as eye catching and the song exactly as I remembered.

Summer Holiday: Whitby

Having not been to Whitby for years and years I then ended up going twice within a very short space of time.  Once when on holiday with my family and then again last week when we went away with my mum for a few nights.

Whitby has changed very little since featuring in Bram Stokers "Dracula", an ancient port with a working harbour and ruined abbey not to mention sandy beaches with donkey rides, amazing ice cream and fantastic fish and chips.

The town is divided by the River Esk with a ”swing-bridge” across it which lifts to let larger vessals through.

There is so much to do in and around Whitby but we'd have needed weeks to see it all.  Here's my pick of what to do when there if you only have a day.

Made In Sheffield: Theatre Deli, Sheffield

Tucked away in the old Woolworths building is this little gem of a cafe, the Moor Deli or Theatre Delicatessen to give it it's full name.  This building feels far more than just a cafe. it feels like a community hub.   It's just soo relaxed,  no airs and graces, and no feeling like you have to go the minute you've finished. ....totally my sort of cafe.   And while it's pouring with rain outside where best to sit in the warm with some Lemon and Ginger Ice Cream?

Children are more than welcome, not only is there is a ping pong table and a pile of games you can play if you wanted to wile away a wet afternoon but you are actively encouraged to draw on the (chalkboard) tables!!  I want chalkboard tables at home!!!  ............ ok so mummy may have had more fun here than the kids did!!

The Theatre Deli team have already had great success in London and when they found this building they could see it's potential with it's "atmosphere, [with] secret corners and dark rooms".

Tesco Orchard Review: Ice Cream - Ice Cream Roll

Whilst flicking through the various ice cream options on Tesco's website I came across Arctic roll or as Tesco call it "Ice Cream Roll".

With Home made Turkey Twizzlers planned for tea one night this had to be the perfect compliment to our school dinner themed evening.

The boys loved it.  The idea that they could have cake and ice cream and 'jam' all in one dish it's safe to say it was a hit and has been requested many nights since.

Tesco Orchard Review: Ice Cream - Pigs in Mud

For years I scoffed at Ben and Jerry's - seriously who pays that sort of money for ice cream I thought (can you tell I am a budgeting queen?) ....... then I tried some and my heart screamed out for more.

I don't eat a lot of ice cream and therefore when I do I treat myself to some 'posh' ice cream, unfortunately for me the kids also like it so I need to **shudders** share.   You can therefore imagine I was pretty chuffed when Tesco asked if I would like to try their ice cream range... and when I found they now did their own Limited Edition 'posh' ice cream "Pigs in Mud" why I bought us a tub.

Dreamz Ice Cream Parlour

This ice cream parlour has been open virtually on my door step for almost 2 weeks now and I'd not set foot in the door............ until Monday night.

Spoilt for choice is not the word .... not only do they have a hugeee selection of ice creams but also milkshakes, smoothies and coffee.

It took me a lot of choosing, and mind changing before I finalised on ...........
