Chickywiggles Christmas guide to...... Songs

One of the best bits about Christmas for me are the songs.  How can you not resist the urge to sing along to Frosty the Snowman as he bounds over the hills with a "Thumpety thump, thump, thumpety thump, thump"?

Admit it, we have all screamed along with Kirsty McColl and the Pogues during "Fairytale of New York" it's probably the most unseasonal Christmas song but ohh soo festive all the same.

That moment when just hearining one song can take you back 14 years ....

I blogged back in September that songs reminded me of moments in my life, but until tonight I hadn't remembered just how many remind me of ex-boyfriends.......

1999/ 2000 (ish) - around 18 years old - Dan.  Dan was lovely, he was my "oh my god how did I score someone like you" boyfriend......... I cannot listen to Queen's "Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy" without remembering him.  It was the tune he'd put on first whenever we went to the pub.

weird connections 1

Do you get those moments when something really little will trigger a memory?  songs are a big one for me, I can instantly be transported to my Auntie's old farmhouse if I hear "I saw the sign" or eat chocolate wheetos, play me "build me up buttercup" and I am in Sporties (my university 'club'), whilst "Sk8er Boi" reminds me of working in Boots.  Walking through crisp autumn leaves remind me of walking to the local November 5th firework display as a child.  Balls of wool .... well they remind me of the time I was very sick while in year 4 at primary school.

This weeks strange moment ...... cold roast potatoes.  I opened the fridge and there they were, right were I
left them after dinner, and wow.  I was transported straight back to Christmas/ Boxing Day.  Weird right?  I mean I must eat cold roasties all the time why should they remind me of Christmas?

Do you have any strange connections?

A blog a day in september - 9th September 2013 - Special songs

Day 9 - September 9th........ A song that reminds you of a special time

Songs can hold so many memories for very different reasons, can you recall some of your favourite songs and the memories they hold?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I link memories to songs, so many songs just take me back to that moment.
Bryan Adams - "Summer of 69", Robbie Williams - "Millennium", Jon Bon Jovi - "Livin' on a Prayer" , Tina Turner - "Rolling on the River"........ all take me back to being a teenager and hanging out at my mates dad's band rehearsals.  Me and Suzanne would sit every weekend on the table in front of the kitchen in the hall while they belted out some amazing tunes.
