The Thread of Life. Project & Exhibition

While on Twitter the other day I came across a lovely project by a local resident artist Sharon Mossbeck that I thought others would love to know about (especially my friends new and old in the )..
MSE Cross Stitch Cafe

The project is based on the mythological Greek figures of the Fates, or Moirai and called "The thread of Life" and is in 2 parts.

Elmer Cross Stitch

So tonight's #WIPWednesday is actually a finished piece because it didn't take me very long.  I can't say tooo much about it in case the recipient reads my blog (I don't *think* they do but you never know).

This, to anyone who hasn't met him before, is Elmer.  He's a favourite in children's literature.  I simply LOVE his bright colours for baby cards/ pictures and it doesn't matter if you don't use the correct shades so fantastic to use up stash.

London Underground - update 25.6.14

I think my last London update was this in August 2013 (WOW 10 months ago) and it was just taking shape..

Superhero Afghan - update March 2014

My 2 boys love their superheroes so I bought lots of little pixel people from Pixel Power which I am gradually stitching onto an Afghan for them.  If they are lucky it will be finished before they are 16 lol.
The biggest reason I keep putting it down is because it is SOO bulky.  Hubby has bought me a HUGE frame to stitch it in but it's just not comfortable and I don't really like floor frames.

When I put it down, back in *cough* October, I had only 5 people stitched, all have their name stitched with them.

I picked it up again last week and since then have managed:

  and

and a square with Noahs name and date of birth on.

Ursula Michael's -"Let's Go To Grandmas"

As you will know I am normally a huge Ursula Michael fan so was soo pleased to find this one.  Sadly I am disappointed.  I hate the mix of upper and lower case in words - all upper or all lower, or capitalise the first letter by all means but "gRandkids", "gaRDEN" and "Another WORD for Love" is just not acceptable.  I have had to alter it as i go along which has knocked my count out and meant a lot of other alterations had to be made.   This is one stitch I will be happy to finish.

I am also trying to use up colours I have rather than buying any at the moment so am using an assortment of purples and rainbow variegated threads.

Completed  2.3.14

Ursula Michael's "Lets Trick or Treat" - finished 15.2.14

can be bought from Crossstitch.com
My Progress update:  15th February 2014 - Completed

I did it, 4 months, and a lot of artistic license (ok mistakes) it's done, and thankfully Ben who claimed it as his own last year loves it.  Read about my Halloween Progress History here.

Valentines Day Card - Ursula Michael

After hunting for a word cloud valentines picture to stitch I was reminded that there was one by one of my favourite designers in Cross Stitch Card Shop.

I love the effect the variegated threads had on it to get the range of colours.

And here it is finished.  A nice quick stitch.

Ursula Michael's "Lets Trick or Treat" - Progress Update 19th January 2014

Progress is slow on this piece as I am rather addicted to Lego Marvel on the PS3 and spend most of my spare time playing that when I'm not blogging.   I am, however, trying to dedicate 1 night a week to stitching.

I am itching to get this piece finished tho as I want to crack on with the boys DC superhero afghan that I started ages ago ... tho I really ought to see if I can find an Iron Man, Spiderman and Hulk to put on it as they are the favourites in this house at the moment.

Lucie Heaton Christmas fairies

27/9/13
I liked the Lucie Heaton Fairy designs but they didn't leave a lot of room for text, so I decided to split them and make 2 cards from 1 design.

cross-stitch update

31/8/13
My cross-stitch is really taking a back seat at the moment (silly blogging and twitter addiction) but after looking at the latest issue of Cross Stitch Crazy (review here) I fear I may have to pic up a needle and start the Christmas cards....... Sorrrrrryyy London Underground you are to be confined to a cupboard for a couple of months.

holiday in 3 more sleeps.... eeeekkkk.

so excited, am going back to stay with my mum for a few nights with the kids, been very busy planning lots of fun things like Thomas Land, Clacton Air Show and London.

ohhhhhhhhhhhh London........I haven't been back there in years.... I am soooo going to go and see the Choccywoccydoodah shop - I LOVE that programme.  But torn between the Natural History Museum or the Science Museum (DS's are 2 and a half and almost 5).  anyone got a preference???

I'm really pleased that I managed to get page 1 of London Underground cross stitch completed in time for #WIPWednesday.
Am really enjoying this piece.

I am all for security but Barclays Bank today have driven me up the wall...... read why on my rants page.

anyways hubby has brought me up a cup of tea (mmmmmmm) so signing off for now.

London Underground Cross Stitch - a work in progress 14/8

Progress update - 14/8/13.
Finished page 1 :)

I bought it here.

It's stitched using 1 strand of thread over 18ct aida (lettering in 2 strand) - the smallest I've ever worked with and probably the last.

It's one of those easy to stitch pieces (so long as you are doing the straight lines lol) ..... try doing the diagonals and it's very easy to get confused,

Thursday........ the weekend starts here........

YAY it's thursday, for me that means Friday as I only work Mon-Thursday.  Need to think of something to do with the boys over the weekend as I hate being stuck in the house.

Unfortunately the tram company are digging up the tracks again all weekend so, as we don't drive, we are pretty stuffed for going anywhere unless we want to faff with busses (yuck).... unless I dare venture out buggyless (double yuck).

OHHHH it's the Lowedges festival on Sunday, wonder how easy it is to get there from mine?  Looks a really fantastic busy day if the sun comes out.

oppps forgot to get the mince out..............done.  Promised the kids spaghetti bolognaise for tea tomorrow and I'd be in trouble if the mince was still frozen lol.  Check out my foodie page for more info on what we will be cooking/eating this week.

Really please to have finished my little Pole dancer cross-stitch , brilliant for tying in my 2 favourite hobbies.

Have been a tad addicted to Twitter the last couple of days, found Liz @dragonflylotusd who has a great idea for #WIPWednesday  a chance to twitter your cross-stitch update pic every wednesday with the # on the end so the stitching community can follow your progress.... hopefully it'll give me a swift kick up the rear to get my WIPs completed.

I'm feeling really Christmassy, have got a real urge to get some shopping done, but I must restrain myself another couple of weeks, nothing wrong with window-shopping tho right?

Just off to update the spending diary and then picking up London Underground stitch for an hour, night night.

Pole Dancer quick stitch

Here's a little cross-stitch of a pole dancer that I designed and stitched in the last couple of days.

SOOO cross tho - the blue pen I used for the gridlines didn't come out properly.  Have used the pen before for a lot longer with no problems which leads me to think it's the aida that is a problem not the pen .
Then i cut it all higgly-ti-pigglety...... but it's just for me to use as an avatar so it'll be fine for that.

5th August 2013

WOW just sat watching Extreme Couponing on TLC, how well organised are those people....... I must admit I do like the idea of printing off the yearly list and buying it all in the January sales.
Unfortunately that just wouldn't work with my boys, I tried to buy cheap for them as the year went on last year only to be met a week before Christmas with "but mummy xxx is ALL I want for Christmas" (DS1, 4 years old).

I will admit to having started my Christmas Shopping though, anyone else?  There are after all only 141 days to go :)

So tonight I've updated my pole fitness and cross stitch pages if you like to follow these.

Please bear with me until I find a layout I like........ lol.

Sandy Hook Cross Stitch bugs

Some lovely people set up a facebook group  in honor of those impacted by the tragedy that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The idea was to xstitch squares that will be made into a wall hanging or small quilt for each family directly
impacted. Additionally, one larger wall hanging will be made for the school

The sizes of squares we were stitching are overall 10x10 or 12x12.

Vee&Co very kindly sent me (free of charge) some lovely bug charts so I could do a girl and boy that could be used wherever the quilters felt it best.

here are the results

eeek - cross stitch chick t-shirts

EEEEEKKKKK - It's almost like someone is inside my head!!!!

Look at this amazing range of t-shirts that symbolise ME (well my chicky personality).

There is Cross-Stitch Chick

Dance chick

Sadly they only seem to be available on the American version of the website  - have facebooked them to double check, will keep you posted if I get a reply.

Well I got a reply, "Only available in the US so far, sorry! You can ask the designer though to make the designs available in the UK as well. You can find their email address in the contact details of their shop."
not the most helpful company :(
