#bookaday June 8th Have more than one copy

We don't tend to keep more than 1 copy of a book in this house, but The Gruffalo is one that we do have 2 copies of (one upstairs one downstairs).  This is becuase I bought the boys a copy as it's fantastic and then we got a second one in a big set of Julia Donaldson books.

“A mouse took a stroll in the deep dark wood
A fox saw the mouse and the mouse looked good."

Anyone with children will know this story (and probably find themeselves saying it in their sleep ... no... that'd just me me then.

The little mouse in question encounters a host of predators who seem to think he might make a tasty treat as he ventures deeper into the deep dark wood.  Among the aimals he meets are a hungry fox, a not-so-wise owl, and a sinister snake.  As he goes along he tells the animals about the super scary Gruffalo.

It is officially The Gruffalo's 15th birthday this year (having been published in 1999) so it has been portrayed in many ways, a tv cartoon, theater shows, toys, games, activity books and wood statues in the forests around the UK.  We went on a couple of these walks, the not so great Sherwood Pines and the fantastic Thorndon Country Park.
