Sob - we've returned from our #budgetholiday

But here's an overview of what we got up to...........it involves quite a lot of food :)

It's going to take me a while to write a post covering everything but when I do get them written I will link up to them from this post.

Friday

Was mostly spent travelling, which was a breeze thanks to DK Books.  We checked in at Park Resorts, Fallbarrow in Bowness and had a quick cup of tea before heading out to see how Ambleside had changed in the few years since we had last been.
Tea was a lovely meal in the Ambleside Tavern (formally The Sportsman/ 'Sporties' my old dancing venue when I was at University there)

Saturday

We had a really busy day.  We spent time in Keswick and visited the Pencil Museum and the slowest
Greggs ever.  We then headed to Grasmere to sample some of the amazing Grasmere Gingerbread's secret recipe.

With time to spare we were able to complete the Huntfun Treasure Hunt in Ambleside on the way home.

Starving we returned to Bowness and bought Sausage and Chips in the Seafarers takeaway, possibly the most expensive chip shop I have ever been in in my life.

Sunday

We went to Hawkshead and had dinner in the Kings Arms.  We then headed back to Ambleside and walked to Waterhead where we sat and ate ice creams while waiting for the ferry to return us to Bowness.

I was looking forward to a Sunday roast in the Albert but it was packed so we trotted over the road to Ye Olde John Peel Inn and had a really nice pub tea (not a roast but an amazing burger)

Monday

More travelling, this time the bus to Penrith, with time to kill in Ambleside we headed to Esquires for
possibly the most expensive Milkshakes ever.    After popping in to see the fsamily we had great fun doing the Spyhunt Treasure hunt around Penrith before checking into the Travelodge.

(no we didn't not eat all day - the Mother-in-law cooked Pizza for tea).

Tuesday

We woke up and went to the adjoining Little Chef for Breakfast before getting the bus again through to Carlisle.
Lunch was KFC before heading over to the Premier Inn.  My dreams of Toby Carvery for tea (just up the road) was quashed as they told me it was currently closed for refurbishment.  So we ended up at the adjoining Lakeside Brewers Fayre (which was a great deal), we also ate breakfast there the following morning.

We unpacked and headed back out to see the Castle.  Unfortunately they closed at 4pm and advised us that 3.30 was too late for admittance :(

So we set off and completed the HuntFun Carlisle.

Wednesday

A leisurely breakfast in the pub and half hour play in the Fun Factory for the boys before once again
getting back on the train to come home.

I am now full of junk food and in desperate need of salad (and a good roast dinner), not to mention the fact I need another week off work to write all my posts :)
