Moving House: A quick guide.

So technically we are going to be renting again but with the really weird twist that we've been involved with the buying side of moving house too.

It's stressful but in a completely different way, I have no control over anything.  I cannot go and shout at someone when they take too long completing paperwork, I am entirely at the mercy of our friends solicitors.

That being said moving house is still moving house, there is still the generic 9-step processes that need to be followed below.  As I go through this moving journey I will explore these in more detail.

Step 1:  Find your new home and follow through the paperwork.

Step 2:  Arrange your moving in date.  Once this has been agreed you can start notifying companies of your new address and arrange to have utilities transferred.  Don't worry if you've not notified everyone as Royal Mail offer a re-direction service (fees apply).

Step 3: Arrange your removal van/ service.

Step 4: Declutter

Step 5: Pack, pack and pack a bit more.

Step 6:  Have you got children or pets?  Where will they be?  How will they be entertained on moving day?

Step 7: Move in.

Step 8:  Unpack and find new homes for all your possessions.

Step 9: (if allowed) Consider redecorating and making the house into your home.

  1. I like the simplicity of this post, it shows that things don't have to be so complicated! One thing that I'd add is that, in the midst of the 'pack, pack and pack a bit more' stage, pack a bag as if you were going on a weekend getaway. After a long day of moving, the last thing you’re going to want to do is rifle through boxes in search of things like your PJs and toothbrush! So I'd suggest packing a bag with all of those essential things you'll require during those first few days.
